Hermes Datacomms, a leading provider of communications for the oil and gas industry, has appointed Kay Ravenscroft as its Global Safety Manager.
Based at Hermes' head office in the U.K, Kay takes on responsibility for developing the companies strategic health and safety policies and procedures to include Hermes head office in the U.K. and all regional branches in Russia, Central Asia, Middle East, Asia Pacific, America, Europe and Africa.

Kay says, " In this new role, safety of Hermes' employees will be the priority. With regional offices in some of the most challenging and difficult parts of the world, each country will offer its different challenges. We have recently opened an office in Iraq and although safety issues will be heightened in this region, the health and safety principles will remain the same. Each region will need to address the health and safety issues and act accordingly. My role will be to help all regions to put Hermes' safety procedures into practice."
The policies will be tailored specifically to the risks faced by Hermes personnel in their working environment and will be appropriate to our work, focusing on the high risk elements. With several years of experience working for Hermes, Kay will work closely with Hermes personnel to mitigate the risks that are important to them.
Kay explains, "We are aiming for the new high profile approach to safety to be embraced by everyone. The safety policies are designed to work with the Hermes operations. With this approach, we want safety practices to be the normal way of working and for safety to be a way of life in Hermes. Developing the procedures will require a lot of development work in order that they are smoothly incorporated into the Hermes operations, "Safety is no accident".
Hermes Kazakhstan has already been awarded OHSAS 180081 (Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems), ISO 9001 (Quality Management Systems) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management Systems), awarded by Moody International.
Anastacia Nismelainina, Country Manager Kazakhstan, explained at the time of the award, "We are thrilled to have passed the Certification Audit for all 3 awards. It is down to a dedicated and hard working team in Kazakhstan which has enabled us to achieve these internationally recognised prestigious certificates."
Hermes aims to have all regions OHSAS 180081 certified, which helps an organisation to implement a formal procedure to reduce the risks associated with health and safety for employees, customers and the general public.
