Hermes supports sports centre for the deaf in Turkmenistan

December 2009

Hermes is thrilled to be providing Christmas presents this year for the children of the Turkmenistan 'Sports Centre for the Deaf' based in Ashgabat.

Lyubov Arhangelskaya, Branch Manager for Hermes Ashgabat, Turkmenistan explains "We started our friendship with the 'Sports Centre for the Deaf' in 2008 and we are really proud of being able to help and donate in our country".

The Turkmenistan 'Sports Centre for the Deaf' has been a member of the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (CISS) since 1995 and is involved in the Summer and Winter Deafylimpics. More than 4,000 deaf athletes participated in the 21st Summer Deaflympics in Taipei, Chinese Taipei, in September 2009 and over 600 athletes participated in the 16th Winter Deaflympics in Salt Lake City, United Sates in February 2007.

Lyubov adds "We look forward to supporting this charity further in the future and are looking at ways of supporting the centre in order to help them to travel to the International Championships".

Giles Middleton, Hermes Commercial Director, and Lyubov are planning a visit to the centre in the new year and pictures of this visit will be posted in 2010.
